Xbox Game Port Delayed "Indefinitely," Microsoft Apologizes To Dev

Another game skips Xbox at launch.

Jyamma Games, the developer behind the Italian-inspired souls-like game Enotria: The Last Song, has indefinitely delayed the Xbox version due to Microsoft being non-responsive.

According to a Discord post by Jyamma studio CEO Jacky Greco (via Windows Central), an Xbox version is ready for submission. However, Microsoft has seemingly ignored the studio's submission ahead of the game's September 18 release date.

"We believe that Xbox is blessed with a huge gaming community and we would love to release Enotria on your platform as fast as possible, as we spent a lot of money and resources to make it happen, but this task is nearly impossible with Microsoft taking months to reply to us when we have the game ready for submission," Jyamma Games explained in a statement. "If you'd like to help please let Xbox know about our situation, if we had a dedicated xbox account manager help us out this issue would not exist, thank you so much!"

The developer later added that Microsoft apologized for the situation, with CEO Jacky Greco writing on Discord (via Eurogamer) that the company reached out after the initial complaints were made. A timetable for when the problems will be rectified was not provided.

Xbox has seen a number of games skip the platform, at least at launch, due to a variety of factors. Black Myth: Wukong reportedly has a non-publicized timed exclusivity deal with Sony, although other reports dispute that. Capcom's remasters such as Ace Attorney Investigations and Capcom Fighting Game Collection were initially skipped over for Xbox as well. However, Capcom revealed that as a result of technical discussions with Microsoft, the latter and the second compilation are coming to Xbox in 2025.

Microsoft requires feature parity and simultaneous launches across Series S and Series X, which has also contributed to delays. Most infamously, Baldur's Gate 3 was released late for Xbox last year due to technical complications related to the Series S version. However, that's not the case with Enotria, as the developer said on Twitter, "It's not a performance issue, the game works better as expected on series S, and really good on series X, but we cannot proceed through the submission process and the reply from microsoft can take up to 2 months."

This is a problem with Console games, specifically Xbox is more so I've noticed. Games such as Palworld were a problem getting updates passed through Microsoft and I ended up buying it on Steam. I'm assuming Steam has a robust and fast system in place to push updates.

This is not a good look for Xbox and hopefully they'll tackle this issue.

If Microsoft isn't committed enough to even pay attention when games are submitted for certification, maybe it's time they get out of this business. Tragic as it would be to lose the Xbox brand entirely as a console option, this isn't much better.

It seems like Microsoft is kind of shooting itself in the foot here.

And yet, in March this year, this same developer was tweeting about how an XBox version of this game did not exist

So either they managed to create two SKUs in 6 months or they seem to be doing what other devs have done and lied to get free publicity for what appears to be an otherwise mediocre game.

Which is more likely?

Proof?

@itsnota2mer: I'm assuming he is referring to tweets like this https://twitter.com/enotriagame/status/1770910701038571709

and a tweet about a demo coming to PC and PS5, ignoring Xbox.

@Lord_Sesshy: I mean, if MS wasn't communicating with the devs even back in March, why would they list an XBOX version/demo? That doesn't tell me that an XBOX version never existed.

I seriously doubt the implication that the XBOX version doesn't exist, (especially when the dev specifically indicates it runs well on Series S/X, and is ready for submission).

@tsunami2311: Oh they know what they're doing. They're putting a bullet in the console business to focus on their cannibalizing Game Pass. The division hasn't been worth a pint of piss since Peter Moore left.

Average looking souls-like. I don't think MS will be hurting much by not having it on their system. That said, it does add to the growing library of delayed/canceled Xbox versions of games.

@mooglestar: Yeah, maybe microsoft are more damaged from getting bad reputation among developers and gamers than damaged from not haing the specific game out as early as on other platforms. Baldur s Gate 3 is one thing but .. a less known game might not matter so much.

But the image of Microsoft is kind of not very nice. It seems like Microsoft has problems getting games approved.

@simonthekid7: Yeah. The Series S was just a huge mistake. I read that development on the new Dune game is getting held back because of it.
