PlayStation VR 2 PC Adapter Restocked At Amazon And Best Buy

This $60 adapter lets you connect your PSVR 2 headset to PC--though this accessory is proving to be a challenge to find in stock.

The PlayStation VR 2 PC Adapter has been difficult to find since launching earlier this month. The adapter adds Windows support for PlayStation's virtual reality headset, and since it's compatible with SteamVR, that means the PSVR 2's catalog of supported games is in the thousands now. The PlayStation VR 2 PC Adapter is currently available at Amazon and Best Buy. Restocks tend to sell out quickly, and this is the first restock we've seen at Amazon that hasn't disappeared in minutes.

Where to buy PlayStation VR 2 PC Adapter

You'll need a bit more than the $60 adapter to connect your PSVR 2 to PC. A DisplayPort 1.4 cable and a Steam account are required. If you need a cable, you can pick up a braided 10-foot JSAUX DisplayPort cable for only $12.

You'll also need a rig that hits the following minimum specifications:

  • Operating system: Windows 10 64-bit/Windows 11 64-bit
  • Processor: Intel Core i5-7600 / AMD Ryzen 3 3100 (Zen 2 or later architecture is required)
  • RAM/memory: 8 GB or more
  • GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 or later (Turing or later architecture is required) -NVIDIA RTX series-AMD Radeon RX 5500XT or later/AMD Radeon RX 6500XT or later
  • DisplayPort: DisplayPort 1.4 (must have a standard DisplayPort or Mini DisplayPort output port)
  • USB: Direct connection only
  • Bluetooth: Bluetooth 4.0 or later

Getting the headset working with your PC requires looks fairly simple, as you'll just need to connect the headset to your PC using the PSVR 2 PC Adapter, then download the PSVR 2 and SteamVR apps.

You'll miss out on some functionality (such as eye tracking and adaptive triggers), but 4K visuals, 3D audio, and plenty of other features are still supported on PC. Check out the trailer above for a closer look at PlayStation VR 2 features on PC.

The PSVR 2 had been one of the priciest consumer VR headsets when the PlayStation 5 was required. As a PC VR headset, though, the headset is on the budget side of the spectrum compared to the Valve Index and HTC Vive. The Valve Index with controllers starts at $749 (headset alone is $499), while the HTC Vive Pro 2 (headset only) starts at $799. Even with a $200 discount at Amazon, the HTC Vive XR Elite still costs $899.

Of course, you still need a gaming PC with the proper specs, so the PSVR 2 still isn't as budget-friendly or streamlined as the most popular virtual reality headset on the market, the Meta Quest 3. A standalone VR headset, the Meta Quest 3 comes with a pair of controllers and retails for $500.

That said, the massive new library of SteamVR games makes Sony's headset a far more versatile option in the VR space. If the release of the PSVR 2 PC Adapter intrigues you, you'll find the PSVR 2 headset for a discounted price. Amazon has the PSVR 2 Horizon Call of the Mountain bundle on sale for $520 (was $600) and the base package for $529 (was $550). These deals pale in comparison to the recent $200 discounts, but they are better than paying full price.

I think my biggest problem is Sony's PSVR headset. Is that they're doing a really bang-up job not really showing this to anybody. And the sad part is it's a really great piece of hardware from what I've seen.

Honest to God it really does feel like a “PS Vita” type situation.

@illegal_peanut: Yep. It feels like they finally added PC support just so the headsets don't all become e-waste.

Whereas it could have been a big success if it supported PC alongside PS5 out of the gate and Sony planned to release all their own VR games on PC too etc

@Spartan_418: IKR.

I mean it's just stupid. Like you release your first-party games to PC, but the PSVR2 games was too much?

@nintendians: it's twice as heavy if you want it wireless. I rather the hardware is not in the headset for comfort and light weight. It would be twice as much money if you want it wireless.

until you put psvr2 on. my son has oculus and it feel heavy after you put the psvr2 on your head. but yes if you have a meta quest or oculus your not gaining much if you get a psvr2 head set. but as a first time vr head set psvr2 is great. it has every feature the 1000 dollar head set has. hdr color, eye tracking,120fps.

@gifford38: i did try it the psvr2 and yes it's lighter than the meta quest 2, but still feel normal to me.

the only thing i don't like about the psv2 is the springy very light rubber on the bottom part where your nose rest on.

Did they bother dealing with scalpers or have they just bought them up to sell at lulzy prices?

This entire product is so backwards. 1) It was over-priced to begin with. 2) It's wired. 3) It's wired back to a PC as well now with this adapter via a Display Port cable to be able to play PC games. Meanwhile, Quest 2/3 allows wireless access today to Steam VR and it's easy to set up and works extremely well, and you get a wireless play space and virtually unlimited play field with ability to store games on the quest 2/3 as well and have just as good quality and way more access to games/higher quality games.

Whoever runs the product research department over at Sony must be now hard at work on bringing the 56k modem back as an adapter to the new PS6 for network redundancy of which the PS6 will be based on 486 DX-33 technology with 80% of the UI features missing at launch. Maybe they can also dream up a new proprietary HDR system no one will support like they did with Tempest requiring everyone for 4 years to use headphones for shitty 3D effects.

@Utnayan: 500 is over priced for the same exact features for pc is 1000 bucks. How much cheaper did you expect it to be. Wired is because they didn't want the hardware in the head set. It's one wire very easy set up. Quest does not have eye tracking or hdr coloring. The games are not upgraded and 120fps. The psvr2 looks much better than quest. And it's much lighter and more comfortable.

@Utnayan: Quest fanboy nonsense. There are still issues with wireless (short battery life, video compression and lag when streaming from PC, extra cost, etc.) and Sony doesn't want to lose countless billions like Meta has which is why they aren't selling their headset at a loss. The Resident Evil games and GT7 blow all of the Quest exclusives out of the water and now you can play all of the PC stuff like HLA too.

@sirdan357: Sony already lost Billions when the thing didn't sell and were used for paperweights in warehouses all over the globe to the point the stock was so bad they stopped production in March 2024 14 months after launch. I am not even a quest fanboy. I am a technology fanboy and the PSVR2 may as well be a step back to Vectra at this point. Get with the times.

@Utnayan: Where are you getting your info from? Sony hasn't lost Billions on anything. The PSVR2 didn't sell as well as they thought it would at 500 dollars, but it did sell 600,000+ units and even more after they lowered the price to 350 dollars. they might have lost some money. They produce 2 million of them and even if costs them 261 dollars a unit (which is the estimated cost of manufacturing) that is 522 million costs to build all the units. Selling 600,000 at an average price of 550 dollars means they made 210,000,000 dollars on the unit in May of 2023 (which was the last reported to the public amount of units they sold). Therefore they only lost 240 million dollars on the PSVR2 which is nowhere near a billion much less billions. After they dropped the price to 350 dollars they sold a lot more. The exact number is unknown as Sony hasn't reported it. So they could have hit a profit or brought their loss to much less. The PC Adapter is a really smart move because it opens the audience up more as there are over 86 million PS5s sold, which means that any PC gamer who likes VR and also has a PS5 can buy one VR device to work on both systems. And opens the market up more on VR options, which in turn will probably drop the price of the PSVR2, Meta Quest, and other VR devices as the competition for the PC VR market gets new contenders.

@samoan: not arguing with your point of view, but a minor correction: PS5 has sold a little over 60 mil units so far, not 86.

@boobytrap: apologies you are correct, not sure where I got 86 or if it was a typo.
