That’s a flop in progress, I predicted a 9. 😞. Still a great score! Will pick it up sometimes.
@silentchief: why does it matter if people are being pandered to? There's not a shortage of manly man games that are being pandered to you... Why can't other people who are different than you not be included?

It is a simple minded complex in which one believe the inclusion of anyone is the exclusion of themselves. Reminds of kids that throw a tantrum when they are not the focus at someone else's birthday party.😂

Cool story. Your birthday party was last month with Dustborn, Star Wars Outlaws and Concord. Nobody showed up so now we're going to enjoy Space Marine 2.
Cope harder 🤷♂️

Ask the devs who are about to be unemployed " why it matters". The audience simply wasn't there. Honestly I wouldn't care if they didn't try so hard to hijack existing IP's but at this point I just enjoy watching the garbage fail.

Nah, I'm actually happier about an 8 than I am a 9 or 10.
A 9 or 10 means it is a crowd pleaser: low risk, nothing new...a solid experience. You could even go so far as to say it's "pop", appeals to the crowds.
A score of 7-8 means it is good, but not good for everyone. In fact it might even be perfect for a smaller crowd, and less than ideal for the masses.
I'll take a 7-8 game over a 9-10 game. At least as far as Gamespot scores go.
@TheEroica: Great time ta jump 'n on ‘da stomp'n'!! ‘da guts are warm!! jump on 'n!!
Indeed! Probably a great intro to the franchise.
Mmm nice score. I definitely wanna jump on and play this with friends.
But I'mma hold out until we get Ultrawide support.
What platform you on? And is there crossplay that you are aware of? I'll be on PC.
@sargentd: I didn't take much for you to derail your own thread all because the character design is 🤮🤢
It's actually outstanding characters design that has inspired everything from Halo, Gears of War and Starcraft.
Good news is most agree hence why it won't become a massive commercial flop like games made to pander to you 🤣.
Meh, I'd say it's more awesome than outstanding, but toh-may-toh, toh-mah-toh.
Space Marines are laughably bad from an artistic perspective; the proportions are all wrong, everything is done to excess, etc. Alien design is hilariously exaggerated. The overall vibe to WH40K artwork can sometimes feel amateurish.
But that's part of the appeal, and why they're so fracking badass. And how else is someone going to fire rocket-propelled, grenade-sized bullets fully-auto with one hand?
So you're both wrong; one is right for the wrong reason, one is wrong for the right reason. 😋 nyah nyah nyah.
Now STFU and let's focus on how epic this game is going to be! FOR THE EMPEROR!
@mrbojangles25: I don't think disproportionated means bad. Not everything is meant to be realistic.
I actually think their design is quite good. It's the basis of the designs of the StarCraft marines and the zergs. I am also pretty sure that gears of wars takes inspiration from them.
I also don't think more femenine or more diverse designs are wrong.
They are just aimed at a different audience.
@sargentd: honestly I wouldn't have if my personal circumstances didn't make it more convenient. On the plus side I found a visa debit gift card I totally forgot about from Christmas which totally covered it so hurray.
Tonight is the last day of my work week, going to hit the ground running with Beetlejuice Beetlejuice tonight at 7pm. Hit the sack. By time I wake up I should be good to go purging xenos in service to the God Emperor of mankind.
You came into a hype thread to bitch about the character models and got triggered because 3 DEI games failed in one month.
Not a enough diversity for you Pedro? Do you feel left out? 🤣

Yet I have not mentioned anything about any other game so it is clear who is triggered.😂

It just reminds me of that exaggerated comic style you see from artist like Joe Madureira. I don't think that makes them laughably bad especially when you see in the lore their like 8 to 9 feet tall superhumans. The art also isn't completely consistent across all their content but I think Space Marine 2 has some of the best art I've seen in the 40k universe. For an IP that has so much shovelware it's nice to see a game that finally does it justice.
Watching some gameplay of this and getting very strong Gears of War vibes, which is very good of course.

No, even worse you came into a hype thread to bitch about these designs while you defend the DEI garbage in every other thread. 🤣
Stay mad bro.

Space Marines don't need cover.

And you still triggered from my comment.😂
Keep telling yourself that 🤣
You can't trigger anyone, but I do love calling you out as you continuously expose yourself.

nope its not gears. does not need cover system.
it take gears but instead of slow cover based. its focus on fun.
@ghosts4ever: Yeah definitely doesn’t have the cover system from the Gears of War games but do get vibes from other aspects here. Does make sense though because I’ve heard that Gears of War also borrowed a bit from the Warhammer universe.

The characters design in Gears definitely feel inspired by Warhammer.
Well I broke my own rule and pre-ordered.
Game is fun! Looks gorgeous, absolutely oozes with that 40K atmosphere. Love it.
Only 1.5 hours into campaign, taking a break now.
My only criticisms thus far are:
1. Combat feels a bit unbalanced. You are getting swarmed early on and then you have these ranged enemies chipping away at you. You could go after them with aimed shots, but then the melee critters whittle you down. Feels very lose-lose to me, and not fair. I don't mind challenge but it seems more frustrating than challenging.
2. Some invisible walls, which imo is just shitty game/level design. Early on you're walking this path and there's this wreck right in front of you and naturally I think "Hey maybe there's some ammo in there or some lore" so I walk out only to be stopped by....nothing? An invisible wall? Seems lazy, next time just put a literal wall please. Or even better, let me walk out there.
Otherwise, lots of fun. Haven't found too many weapons yet but honestly I'd be happy playing the game with the ol' chainsword and bolter the whole way through haha.

Sounds like they didn't do well with crowd control it seems as this was my concerned when I saw that from most of the gameplay trailer. Basically just mash the melee button like crazy.

Invisible walls were mostly all over the place in Black Myth Wukong. But truth be told, it doesn't bother me as that was standards back in the old gaming days but today's standard tech we have now, I fully agree its a lazy designed nowadays. I try not to think about it much but yeah.
Looks like I'll find out if I can tolerated when I pick it up on launched.

Yeah and I thought about that for a while after I posted and was like "Damn, are we spoiled now?" because I do also remember that being par for the course with games for a long time.
And this game is linear, so I can't fault it for that. Gotta keep the corridors maintained even when you're outside.
I got through half the campaign today, it is a lot of fun, especially once you get into the rhythm of using ranged, melee, executions and the marked range shots after a heavy attack. I only played a few rounds on multiplayer but it is refreshing to play a shooter that isn’t a typical twitch shooter like CoD or DOOM. The graphics are absolutely stunning as well. I think the devs did a fantastic job on this game, and I can see lots of replayability with the multiplayer modes.

Might be talking out of my ass and just be annoying to you, but it sounds like you need to position yourself better? Can't just stand and shoot while taking damage from melee critters.. Dodge, shoot one of the ranged, repeat. Or run away from the critters and shoot the rangers quickly before the critters catch up to you again? Or maybe you have to use the guard thingy more, and get into an invincible animation when stuff shoots at you?
But I haven't played it, don't even know if that's possible.
