Black Myth: Wukong gives you several ways to survive and take the fight to your enemies. One particular mechanic involves brewing concoctions that further buff the Destined One's attributes. Here's our guide on how to craft medicine in Black Myth: Wukong.

How to craft medicine in Black Myth: Wukong

Black Myth: Wukong medicines can be crafted once you complete the Xu Dog's quest in Chapter 2. Once this mechanic has been unlocked, you'll be able to use your ingredients to come up with consumables based on the recipes/formulae that you've obtained.

Where to find the Xu Dog

Where to find the Xu Dog

The Xu Dog NPC can be found fairly close to the Sandgate Village - Village Entrance shrine. From the waypoint, look back the way you came and search for a nook below a rock formation. The area itself is also near the Lang-Li-Guhh-Baw frog miniboss. Upon chatting with Xu Dog, you're told that the frog ate one of his formulae, so it's up to you to retrieve it.

    How to defeat the Lang-Li-Guhh-Baw

The Lang-Li-Guhh-Baw miniboss is just below the ledge where Xu Dog is located. This foe is somewhat akin to the Baw-Li-Guhh-Lang, the frog enemy that you fought in the swamps in Chapter 1. It's still got a long, lashing tongue that you need to watch out for, as well as leaping attacks that can squash you. The key difference here is that it casts lightning-imbued spells. The shock debuff that builds up may cause you to take higher damage than usual.

After defeating the Lang-Li-Guhh-Baw, you'll receive the Evil Repelling Medicament formula. Return to Xu Dog and hand it over. This will unlock the Black Myth: Wukong medicine crafting function. From this point onward, you can interact with a shrine to select the "Make Medicines" panel, or chat with Xu Dog in various locations.

Consumable recipes must be acquired first, either while exploring different regions or by purchasing them from Xu Dog. The materials you need vary for each item, though most are herbs, fungi, and plants. Here are some examples early in the campaign:

    • Evil Repelling Medicament - Considerably increases damage reduction for a long duration; requires 1x Licorice and 1x Jade Lotus.
    • Tiger Subduing Pellets - Moderately increases damage dealt for a long duration; requires 1x Snake-Head Mushroom and 1x Purple Linzhi.
    • Body-Cooling Powder - Instantly removes burnt state and increases burn resistance for a short duration; requires 1x Fragrant Jade Flower and 1x Jade Lotus.
    • Shock-Quelling Powder - Instantly removes shocked state and increases shock resistance for a short duration; requires 1x Gentian and 1x Jade Lotus.
    • Antimiasma Powder - Instantly removes poisoned state and increases poison resistance for a short duration; requires 1x Tree Pearl and 1x Jade Lotus.
    • Body-Warming Powder - Instantly removes chilled state and increases chill resistance for a short duration; requires 1x Fire Bellflower and 1x Jade Lotus.
    • Longevity Decoction - Considerably increases maximum health for a long duration; requires 1x Licorice and 1x Fragrant Jade Flower.

Now that you can craft medicines in Black Myth: Wukong, there's another option that becomes available a few hours later in the campaign. The next time you encounter Xu Dog, which is in the Crouching Tiger Temple's cellar, you should see the "Make Medicines - Celestial Medicines" option. This mechanic allows you to allocate resources known as Mind Cores to boost your attributes, such as health, mana, stamina, and resistances. Even better, you can refund the resource if you wish to reallocate them to buff a different stat.

That does it for our Black Myth: Wukong medicine crafting guide. Those who want to boost their character further should check our HP/mana/stamina upgrades guide.

Black Myth: Wukong takes you to realms filled with mysterious beings and numerous challenges. For more tips and tactics, you can visit our Black Myth: Wukong guides hub.
