It's been over a year since the launch of Overwatch 2 and the support roster has seen a ton of change in that time. As new heroes continue to get released, the entire Overwatch 2 roster has been adjusted to adapt to new metas. Supports have been given longer cooldown to deemphasis many of their abilities, but a great support can still be the difference between a win and a loss. If you need help with other classes, we also have an Overwatch 2 tank tier list and an Overwatch 2 DPS tier list.
As for the Overwatch 2 support class, these stalwart medics and helpers might play the same as they always have, but Overwatch 2's faster pace and one-tank-fewer approach to combat mean that some support heroes aren't quite as useful as they once were. Unlike with tank heroes, you'll have a much more difficult time making some support heroes work.
For others, though, these changes make their unique abilities stand out even more and give them an expanded role to play in matches. Since the launch of Overwatch 2, there have been three new support heroes, Kiriko, Lifeweaver, and Illari. Kiriko has cemented herself as a fan-favorite, but Lifeweaver and Illari are also pretty popular. Other fan-favorites may have risen or fallen according to some subtle changes in their kits--and the game itself--but what's worth remembering here is that, most of the time, the right team comp can make any hero a stellar addition. Some are just better-suited for general-purpose use, while others might serve rarer occasions. From near-mascots like Mercy and Lucio to the newer Kiriko and beloved Ana, here's how all 11 support heroes stack up in Overwatch 2.
11. Moira
Moira is a great entryway for new players to learn support, but her limited abilities and a resource-driven heal makes her a weak pick, especially compared to the rest of the supports. Moira has a pretty high healing ceiling, but she doesn't have any other types of support abilities. She can throw a ball that heals or does damage and her regular healing ability is limited by a meter, that can only be refilled slowly over time or by doing damage.
Compared to other healing-driven healers, like Mercy and Lifeweaver, having a resource pool limits her ability to do large amounts of healing. Moira's only other aspect is her ability to deal damage. Her damage output is decent and she doesn't have to reload, but she has to be close to attack, putting her in danger.
10. Lifeweaver
Lifeweaver suffers from a problem that could be a bigger issue with Overwatch 2 as a whole moving forward, which is his bloated kit. Lifeweaver has numerous abilities, none of which are particularly powerful. His dash has very limited mobility and only provides a slight boost to personal health. The Petal Platform lets teammates rise above the action but has a limited amount of health and usability. Life Grip pulls a teammate towards Lifeweaver, potentially saving them, but a long cooldown doesn't make this a game changer.
While Lifeweaver's ultimate can be very useful on a contested objective, his biggest flaw is that outside of his ultimate, he has no healing abilities. He can only use his primary weapon to provide heal shots. His machine gun is an excellent self-defense weapon, due to its high damage output at short range, but outside of that range it's pretty worthless. Lifeweaver has some unique abilities, but overall he isn't as dynamic as other supports.
9. Brigitte
Brigitte is an excellent support that can provide a ton of heals while also dealing damage, but her usage is quite situational. Brigitte has a small shield which she can hold to defend herself and anyone behind her for a small amount of damage. She has three healing packs, which provide a bunch of healing overtime when thrown to enemies, which provides the bulk of her healing.
Brigitte also provides healing in an area around her whenever she deals damage. She has a ranged whip attack, but otherwise she has to get in the action to deal damage, which means she thrives in more close-quarters game modes, but when faced with payload maps, she struggles to close the gap.
8. Lucio
Lucio might be a favorite pick of Top 500 support players, but for most people his usage is pretty mid-tier. The main downfall of Lucio is that he has no way to focus his healing, instead just providing a radius of healing. The upside is he can heal multiple teammates at once, but that requires a team playing in tight formation. His speed can help get the team to an objective faster, but this is most useful when the whole team is leaving spawn, which really only happens at the start of a round.
Much of his love in higher ranks comes from his damage output. Using his speed boost, you can get into the enemy team's face, do tons of damage, and get out without dying, but this requires a level of skill most players don't have. This also leaves your other support to heal on their own, which doesn't work without an organized team of five. Lucio's ultimate ability does provide a massive amount of shields for his team, which can effectively negate an enemy ultimate ability.
7. Illari
Illari has a solid mix of healing and damage, with a higher ceiling than other supports that have similar kits. Illari has the advantage of having two avenues for healing her teammates. First is her gun, which fires a beam that heals rapidly. This ability has a short meter, but a full charge can completely heal a dying tank, as does it faster than most other supports. She also has a pylon she can set up to automatically heal her teammates. The pylon offers unlimited healing that can happen without Illari, really driving up her number.
In addition to that, her primary weapon can deal a ton of damage at range, as long as you are a decent shot. It has a short charge up period, so it isn't great in a pinch. You can reliably kill most non-tanks in a few shots, so long as a critical hit is mixed in there. She has a strong offense-focused ultimate ability too.
6. Juno
Juno sits in the middle of the list following her debut, offering some solid healing if you have good aim and a second support that can boost movement speed. Juno sports a small burst pistol that heals teammates and damages enemies. It's incredibly accurate, but the burst-fire rate makes it feel a bit more unwieldy than it is. It also can't do critical damage to enemies, making it difficult to defend yourself in a 1v1 fight. Juno has three regular abilities, one shoots a large ring that grants increased movement speed, while another lets her use her jetpack to move faster.
Her third ability is a lock-on rocket pack, which fires healing rockets at teammates and damaging rockets at enemies. The lock-on mechanism is a bit slow, but it's great for finishing off retreating enemies and provides a pretty large healing burst. Juno's ultimate ability is fantastic though, shooting a massive beam down onto the ground that slowly moves forward. Teammates inside the beam get healed a ton and get a damage boost, making it an excellent ultimate for pushing the enemy team.
5. Zenyatta
Zenyatta is one of the more difficult-to-play supports, but his abilities make him a force to be reckoned with. He has two orbs he can send out and attach to other players. He can place a healing orb on teammates to provide continuous healing and an orb he can place on enemies to increase the amount of damage they take. His healing orb can put out a high amount of healing, as long as you continuously move it. His discord can make enemy tanks very easy to take down, making him very useful to have around.
His ultimate makes Zenyatta invincible and provides a very high amount of healing to teammates in its range. The reason Zenyatta is hard to play is because his attack fires precision orbs, which require some skill to land effectively. The other reason is that Zenyatta doesn't have a movement ability and is pretty slow, so the only way to deal with enemies coming after you is to be good enough with his attacks to take them down.
4. Kiriko
Kiriko, and the heroes above her on the list, all have dynamic abilities that allow them to provide support in multiple ways. Kiriko has a strong healing output, which can be done at a pretty far range. Her teleport makes it easy for her to get to teammates who need healing to escape when she is in danger. Her cleanse is a great ability, which lets her make herself and teammates invulnerable for a moment, while removing negative effects like anti-healing.
Her kunai primary attack is a pure skill shot. It deals a measly 20 damage on body shots, but does much more when it's a critical shot, letting you kill most non-tank enemies in two hits. Kiriko also has a small hit box, making her harder to kill than some other supports.
3. Mercy
Playing Mercy typically means sacrificing any damage output, but if used to her best, you can easily make up for it. Her healing staff tether provides a ton of continuous healing, without the need to reload. She can also provide a damage boost instead, which can make your damage heroes into powerhouses.
Her resurrection can change the momentum of the fight, especially when used to bring a tank back into the fight. While her pistol is pretty weak it can be used to defend yourself in the most desperate situations. Her ability to fly around to teammates and float can make her difficult to pin down and kill. While a Mercy that does nothing but heal isn't the best support, a Mercy using her full ability set is a massive help to the team.
2. Baptiste
Baptiste has pretty much everything you can ask for in a support hero. His attack deals a solid amount of damage and his healing output is high. His healing grenade launcher and his area of effect ability both do a ton of healing in a short period of time. The most important part of his kit is the Immortality Field, which creates a small area where your teammates cannot be killed. Not only can this save your teammates from normal deaths, it can also negate many ultimate abilities.
Like many of the high-damage supports, his gun requires precision shots to be at its best, but its normal damage output is pretty high regardless. His barrier ultimate ability increases the damage of all friendly attacks sent through it, letting your team deal a massive amount of damage in a short period of time.
1. Ana
Ana takes the top spot on the support list, mostly due to her being great at bullying enemy tanks. While she was able to do this in the original Overwatch, the swap to a single tank in Overwatch 2 has been beneficial for Ana. Even a year into Overwatch 2, Ana continues to be a menace. Her two abilities are what make her great against tanks. Her sleep dart can cancel enemy abilities and make tanks defense for your team to attack. Her grenade can provide anti-heal, making it so an enemy hit cannot be healed for a few seconds, making them vulnerable.
In addition to that, her healing from her rifle is great and the range is the longest out of any support. Her ultimate ability, nano boost, increases the damage and damage reduction of a single teammate and when combined with most ultimate abilities in the game can easily wipe an enemy team. If you're looking for a single support to learn, Ana is a great choice.
